I have been an astrologer for over twenty-five years and during that time I experienced the time consuming process of setting up the astrological chart by hand. Although this takes time, it also gives the astrologer knowledge which is invaluable, as well as, while in the process of setting up the chart one is also interpreting the chart. However today we are living in the age of the computer, which has provided us the ability to produce outstanding and extremely accurate charts.

I have used a variety of programs in the past and have come to the conclusion that Astrolabe's Solar Fire program for astrology is the most complete, user friendly, accurate and attractive program that I have used. The ACS atlas when used along with Solar Fire takes out the tedious process of looking up the latitude and longitude and time change for each chart. I have recommended this software to my students.

Solar Maps is also used with Solar Fire and allows one to view a chart spread out across the world. Rectification
See how event charts relate to any natal chart. Graph the number of times a degree area gets hit. See how by transits, then let the program suggest appropriate MCs and Ascendants. Also, for charts with known birthtimes, you can see which points are most sensitive to transits.

Rectification elaborates on the Graphic Rectification system pioneered by Bernadette Brady. You start by inputting the birthdate with a range of possible birthtimes, and give the program a dozen or more timed or untimed life events. The program then displays graphs showing how often each degree was hit by the transits for these events. Taking the peaks in these graphs, the program tries them out as possible charts, letting you judge transits to the possible chart angles according to the type of event.

An additional dynamic chart view displays the proposed natal chart in wheel form, so you can watch the transiting planets move around it as you run it forward in time. You can run it fast or slow, and can stop the motion at any point to examine the transits in detail.

Even if you know the birthtimes, the rectification module can tell you much about how a chart responds to transits. It can also help you make minor adjustments to known birthtime so as to improve the accuracy of forecasts.

A wide variety of astrological factors include all types of zodiac divisions (from hemispheres and polarities down to degrees); all kinds of house division; Gauquelin sectors; aspects and harmonics; dignities; and coordinate systems (including latitude, RA, declination, altitude and azimuth). You can also add up to 50 extra points (eclipses, fixed stars, important degrees, etc.) to the standard chart points and 7 major asteroids. Whatever you specify, you get an instantaneous graphic display of results. Bar or polar graphs let you see in a flash whether the effect is worth pursuing, and tables give exact figures. Plus, you can click on any part of a graph or table for an instant chi-square evaluation.
